Meet Velimir Rašić, CTO of FilmConnect
Tell us about FilmConnect
FilmConnect is a B2B marketplace connecting clients and service providers in the audiovisual industry. Our platform streamlines the production process with tools for secure escrow payments, real-time collaboration, and a network of vetted professionals—making filmmaking more efficient and accessible.
Please give some more details of your startup story
We founded FilmConnect in 2024 after witnessing just how chaotic and inefficient film productions can be. With a mix of experience in filmmaking and tech, we knew there had to be a better way. Today, we’re a team of six passionate problem-solvers building a platform designed to make productions run smoother for everyone involved.
Tell us more about your plans for 2025 and what is your long-term vision.
In 2025, our focus is on perfecting the platform, onboarding our first major clients, and making some noise in the industry. Long-term, we envision FilmConnect as the go-to global hub for film production—a trusted space where creators, clients, and providers collaborate seamlessly across borders.
What has been the biggest success that you have achieved in your startup?
Our biggest success so far? Securing Letters of Intent from 40 clients with a combined annual spend of €120 million—a massive validation of our concept. On top of that, presenting FilmConnect at events like the Cannes Film Festival and Berlinale proved that we’re not just onto something—we’re onto something big.
If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? What are your biggest learnings?
If we had to start over, we’d gather user feedback earlier and simplify our MVP even more. Our biggest takeaway? Listen closely, stay flexible, and don’t hesitate to pivot when needed. Oh—and never underestimate how much coffee and patience a startup journey requires!
What motivates you to continue your business every day?
It’s the idea that we’re actually easing some of the chaos in film production. Helping filmmakers reclaim time and headspace to focus on their craft is incredibly rewarding. And hey—knowing FilmConnect could be part of the credits behind a future great film? That’s not bad motivation either.
One piece of advice for someone who is just starting out with their startup?
Start small, think big—and be ready to make mistakes (you’ll make plenty!). Build something that solves a real problem, launch early, and stay close to your users. Also: invest in a solid coffee machine. You’ll thank us later.
What does it mean to you to be a member of the Swiss Startup Association?
Being part of the Swiss Startup Association means being surrounded by people who get it—the highs, the lows, and the late-night pitch deck edits. Personally, it’s inspiring to connect with like-minded entrepreneurs. Professionally, it’s an incredible resource for networking, advice, and avoiding rookie mistakes.
Would you recommend joining the Swiss Startup Association? Why?
Definitely! Joining the Swiss Startup Association is like getting a backstage pass to the startup world. It offers access to top-tier resources, expert advice, and a community that has your back through the ups and downs of building a business. Why go it alone?
Have you ever attended events by the Swiss Startup Association? If yes, which ones? Would you recommend them?
Yes—I attended the online session “What Happens When You Grow from 5 to 50 Employees?” with Laurent Decrue and Gregory Inauen. It was packed with practical insights and real-world lessons on scaling. Highly recommended for any founder looking to grow wisely.
Is there anything that we haven’t asked you that you would like to share with us/the community?
Building a startup is a wild ride—thrilling, exhausting, and sometimes downright chaotic. But it’s all worth it when you see your idea take shape. To the community: don’t hesitate to ask for help, share your challenges, and celebrate even the small wins. We’re all in this together.
