Meet Daniel Meyer, Co-founder & CEO of Bee People AG

Tell us more about Bee People.
Bee People is a Swiss life science company focused on preventive health and nutrition. We help societies live healthier, longer lives with effective bee-based health supplements and superfoods—backed by the latest in science and technology, and approved by mother nature. Our products are made in Switzerland, fully natural, and ethically produced.

Please give some more details of your startup story: what was the “aha” moment that led to the idea for your startup?
Up to the age of 40, I never cared much about my health. I worked around the clock in corporate jobs and while building our first startup, EGO Movement. With the birth of our daughter two years ago, I realized this lifestyle was not sustainable and that health had to become a first priority.

My co-founder grew up with bee products: her grandmother always told her to eat them daily to avoid getting sick and to keep the body strong. We wanted to understand the science behind this and quantify the benefits. So, in 2024, we founded Bee People together with a pharmacist, two apiarists, and a sales ninja on our team.

So, what’s next for you, what’s a bold goal you’re chasing right now?
We just launched and are in full scale-up mode, releasing several new products, focusing on the Swiss market, and exploring opportunities in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Our long-term vision is to build a global bee product health company. We want societies to shift their mindset from curing diseases to preventing them through natural solutions.

Which decision had the most unexpected positive impact on your startup?
Producing and launching our first products—capsules and blends made from organic Swiss honey and propolis—was a game changer. We are so proud of them: they are effective and taste great. We also have a strong pipeline of new products, each focused on particular health areas such as strengthening immunity, improving gut health, and supporting good sleep and relaxation.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? What are your biggest learnings?
From our previous startup, EGO Movement, which we built from scratch to a successful exit with 60 team members and 12 retail locations in DACH, we learned:

  1. Create great products.
  2. Stay agile—build rapid prototypes, test the market, then learn and adapt.
  3. Persistence always pays off.
  4. Build a strong team that shares the same vision.
  5. Stay true to your passion.

Building a startup requires resilience, how do you stay focused during tough times?
We do what we love. We’re very passionate about natural health products—and bees, of course. My co-founder Marie and I are trained beekeepers, and shaping a world with a thriving bee population while raising awareness about this topic is very important to us. We also plan to set up a bee education center in the Engadine Valley and are looking for collaborators to join us.

One piece of advice for someone who is just starting out with their startup?
Luck is the result of hard work: be nimble, be persistent, and don’t give up.

What value do you see in being part of the Swiss Startup Association?
When I founded my first startup during my studies at ETH in 2005, the platforms available for startups were very limited. It’s important for founders to exchange views, learn from each other, and get professional advice on specific topics—and this is exactly what SSA provides. Every startup experiences the same rollercoaster, and it helps to talk about it with like-minded people.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the community?
Stay healthy and keep buzzing! 🐝
