Please tell us about Balmo (Oral Care Solutions)

Oral Care Solutions GmbH specializes in innovative oral care products, including Balmo, a gel that provides long-lasting relief for dry mouth. Founded by an oral surgeon, the company is committed to improving oral health with scientifically-proven, patient-centered solutions.

Founded in 2024 by Dr. Virginia Ortiz, Oral Care Solutions GmbH addresses the overlooked challenges of dry mouth. Inspired by her clinical experience, Dr. Ortiz developed Balmo, combining scientific innovation with patient needs. The aim is to elevate oral health globally.

Tell us more about your plans for 2024 and what is your long-term vision.

In 2025, we plan to finalize regulatory approvals, conduct further clinical trials, and launch Balmo commercially. Our vision is to become a leader in oral care by offering effective, user-friendly products that enhance oral health and quality of life for diverse global populations.

What has been the biggest success that you have achieved in your startup?

Developing Balmo, an innovative gel for dry mouth, is our greatest success. Early trials and feedback have highlighted its efficacy and ease of use, setting it apart in a $2.8B market. Securing pilot studies and enabling validation of the product in Europe and Switzerland marks a significant milestone.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? What are your biggest learnings?

I would prioritize earlier engagement with regulatory bodies to streamline approvals. Our biggest learning has been the importance of continuous user feedback, which has guided product improvements and ensured Balmo meets patients’ practical needs.

What motivates you to continue your business every day?

Seeing the transformative impact Balmo has on users inspires us. Alleviating the discomfort of dry mouth and improving lives drives our mission to innovate in oral health care. The potential to fill unmet needs and deliver meaningful solutions keeps us committed.

One piece of advice for someone who is just starting out with their startup?

Focus on understanding your target audience and solving a specific problem. Build a network of mentors, stay agile, and embrace feedback to refine your product. Resilience and adaptability are key to navigating challenges and driving your vision forward.
