Meet Oliver Felix, CEO of docjo GmbH
Please tell us about docjo GmbH
Perfecting chronic disease care through medically proven apps. docjo is committed to bringing innovative, safe and high-value care Software-as-a-Medical-Device (SaMD)apps to international markets within a single platform/pipeline approach and hybrid settings. The current portfolio encompasses two CE (“Conformité Européenne”) certified applications targeting metabolic syndrome and patients suffering from respiratory diseases. Through active involvement, self-management, and education of the patients before and in between consultations in different languages, the goal is to improve disease management and outcomes.
We incorporated in 2023 in Basel as a spin-off from docdok.health. Our office is located at Switzerland Innovation Park (Novartis Campus) fully set up for SaMD development. We are currently a small and lean team of less than 10 people and mainly working with partners.
Tell us more about your plans for 2024 and what is your long-term vision.
For 2024, we are focusing on getting ready for the Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) as well as to launch future-oriented care models with the involvement of our apps with health insurers and larger corporations. Our long-term vision is to help as many people with chronic diseases as possible by providing valuable and useful tools for disease management. Ultimately, we want to ease the existing burden on healthcare systems and make them more efficient globally.
What has been the biggest success that you have achieved in your startup?
Already in my first 2.5 months, I was able to close a financing round of >300k CHF!
If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? What are your biggest learnings?
I’m only 5 months in on my startup journey and it has been exciting! So far, I have absolutely no regrets and can only congratulate anyone who dares to take this step. If you have the opportunity as a first-time founder to bring people on board who have already raised a successful startup or learnt from unsuccessful startups, then do it. This is also extremely important when it comes to finding investors. I am in the very privileged position of being able to benefit from these experiences.
What motivates you to continue your business every day?
Personally affected, I want to help patients manage and cope with chronic diseases while also focusing on optimising the existing processes used by physicians.
One piece of advice for someone who is just starting out with their startup?
Networking is the key. It is very important to have the right people with a large network on board. Just having a good product or a good service does not make a successful startup.
What does it mean to you to be a member of the Swiss Startup Association?
Personally, I really enjoy getting in touch with as many people as possible with a fresh mindset. Collaboration is key and we are able to benefit from each other, also from a professional point of view.I believe that every startup moving by on their own will encounter difficulties, but when we are able to combine our strengths, great things can happen.
