Meet Jessica Dupertuis, Founder of Charlotte Noire

Please tell us about Charlotte Noire

Created by a professionally trained chef turned hairstylist, Charlotte Noire cultivates texture conscious communities through knowledge sharing and easy to use mostly natural products that provide accessible healthy hair care solutions for everyone with kinks, curls and coils. We are a texture hair care brand with hair care products and a hair salon in Geneva.

Charlotte Noire was founded from a deep loss. After losing my son, and with my daughter en route, the idea of Charlotte Noire was born. In California, where I am from, one can easily find a stylist that specialises in texture hair. Bringing American hospitality with hair care was the right niche at the right time.

Tell us more about your plans for 2024? What is your long-term vision?
Our 2024 goals consist of adding more products to our product line, recruiting new team members, opening a larger curly hair salon and growing our community in new aspects.

In 5 years, we hope to sell our products worldwide. We are also looking into opening more salons (i.e. Curl Sanctuary by Charlotte Noire) around Switzerland and the EU.

What has been the biggest success that you have achieved in your startup?
Building a community of Charlottes that care about what we are doing is my biggest achievement.

Before I became Swiss, I never imagined being a part of such a large group of beautiful people.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? What are your biggest learnings?
As most entrepreneurs would probably say, there are many things we would change or do differently but at least there are no regrets. I would have trusted my gut in every decision. I would have trusted my intuition in ALL things Charlotte Noire.

What motivates you to continue your business every day?
Three good reasons:

  1. The high school counselor who told my mother I would be nothing in life.
  2. For my children, both living and in heaven
  3. For the love of curls

One piece of advice for someone who is just starting out with their startup?
Trust yourself and go for it!

What does it mean to you to be a member of the Swiss Startup Association?
Personally, it means that I am opening myself up to more ideas and participation. Professionally, it means more awareness for our brand.
