Meet our Premium Member: Roman Staempfli , Co-Founder & CEO of bluu
What is bluu?
My Co-Founder Marko and I started thinking about bluu during the first lockdown in 2020.
Also during this time, my other business struggled due to the Covid restrictions, hence I was looking for other more stable business ideas. That’s why we ended up founding bluu in November 2020 with the goal of revolutionizing the laundry detergent market towards one that is more sustainable. Today we are a team of 11 people dedicated to making that vision become reality. Our product is widely available in Switzerland. Apart from our online shop, our laundry detergent sheets are available in more than 1’400 physical outlets, including Coop, SPAR, Manor, drug stores and pharmacies. Since May 2022, the sheets are also now available in Germany, Austria and France..
What are your plans for 2022/2023? What is your long-term vision?
Our long-term vision is to become the number one D2C laundry detergent brand in Europe. In the near future, we are planning to expand our product portfolio and intensify expansion and international sales to drive our growth.
What has been the biggest success that you have achieved in your startup?
In retrospect, our biggest success was to build up the company within a short period of time without external funding. Even today, we are still bootstrapped.
If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? What are your biggest learnings?
There are not so many things we would do differently, but if there is one thing it’s to better listen to the inner voice and the initial feelings.
What motivates you to continue your business every day?
The everyday learning and personal takeaways and not forgetting the awesome team that works hard every day for the success of our brand.
One piece of advice for someone who is just starting out with their startup?
Don’t hesitate to ask questions and connect with people you think could help.
What does it mean to you to be a member of the Swiss Startup Association?
I think it’s very important that there is a strong startup exchange and that there is an Association that helps also to achieve political visibility. That’s why I recommend joining the Swiss Startup Association because it supports the startup world, where you can join inspiring events to meet great people. For example, I joined an Afterwork at Spoom event, and I am looking forward to the next events coming up.
