Meet our Premium Member: Karol Furman, Co-Founder & CEO of Quarero

We recently had the pleasure of interviewing one of our Premium Members: Karol Furman, the Co-Founder and CEO of Quarero. It’s always great to see our Startup Members succeed and to learn about their how and why. Read on to find out more about Quarero and be inspired by their story!

Introducing the Startup: Quarero

Quarero – a dynamic Swiss startup founded in 2021 by six friends who are now also business partners. A little more than 3 years ago, we were sitting together and talking about our time spent at the university. Among lots of great memories, we also realized how much of the knowledge and skills that we developed are now lost and forgotten. We were shocked, and even sad about it. For a while, we were working in various business sectors, but one thing was common for all of us: from time to time we all needed the knowledge from our studies, which has been forgotten because we did not use it since then. We decided we wanted to change this and built Quarero – a freelance marketplace on which companies,  startups and freelancers can browse through thousands of students’ profiles, filter by skills, experience, language, etc, and remotely collaborate with them.

What are your plans for 2022/2023? What is your long-term vision?

In the short term, we are planning to hire a Customer Service Representative to strengthen our relationship with existing customers, and to ensure that they find the right student for their projects. We are constantly growing our database of students, and making the platform more attractive for the companies that use it, and we will continue to do so. Additionally, by the end of the year we will release a new version of the platform with a new design and improved UX/UI.  

In the long run, I believe that students will no longer look for jobs after their graduation. The jobs will look for them. But to make it happen, they need to be in a database that knows about their skills, qualifications, psychological profile, etc. I dream that Quarero will become the best matching platform for millions of students and companies worldwide, for both remote and permanent jobs.

What has been the biggest success that you have achieved in your startup?

Building the platform and finding the first investor.

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? What are your biggest learnings?

I would be more careful in selecting the people with whom I want to create a partnership to grow our startup.

What motivates you to continue your business every day?

Feedback from students who told us recently that they were able to survive from one month to another thanks to the projects which they were able to do via our platform. Experiencing the excitement of students, and finding out that they had previously not had an opportunity to showcase their skills is truly inspirational and motivating.

One piece of advice for someone who is just starting out with their startup?

Learn to forgive yourself for the mistakes you make.

What does it mean to you to be a member of the Swiss Startup Association?

I recently became a member, therefore I haven’t had the opportunity to get to know the SSA network yet. However, I am already extremely excited to be able to participate in an interview like this, which gives people the opportunity to introduce their startup to the SSA community. I also look forward to attending networking events and Founders Dinners to meet other startup founders and be part of the SSA ecosystem.
