Meet Silvan Leibacher, Co-Founder & CEO of EggField
Tell Us About EggField.
EggField develops plant-based egg alternatives for the food industry. Our products replace chicken eggs in baked goods, pasta, sauces, desserts, and cocktails—using functional, natural ingredients from legumes, largely sourced from upcycled side streams.
Please give some more details of your startup story.
EggField was founded in 2022 by Silvan Leibacher, David Ebneter, and Riet Steiger to drive sustainability in food, while staying focused on great taste and texture. With a team of seven, we develop clean-label, plant-based egg replacements made from legumes—for gastronomy and industrial food production.
Tell us more about your plans for 2025 and what is your long-term vision.
In 2025, we’ll scale production and begin expanding in the DACH region. We’ve developed containers of up to 1,000 kg for industrial producers. Our long-term goal is to become the leading B2B provider of plant-based egg solutions—offering a solid and price-stable alternative to chicken eggs, and making clean, functional egg replacements the new standard in food manufacturing.
What has been the biggest success that you have achieved in your startup?
Our biggest milestone in 2025: closing our first industrial-scale fixed contract with a German pasta producer. We’ve also collaborated with HILTL and Swiss International Air Lines and received the Igeho Rising Star Award 2023/2024.
If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? What are your biggest learnings?
Laser-focus even more on taste and scale. In B2B food, great products alone aren’t enough—you need the right price point, texture, taste, distribution partnerships, and contacts. That’s where networks like SSA can really support the journey.
What motivates you to continue your business every day?
We believe EggField can drive real change—ecologically, technologically, and culinarily. Turning side streams into functional, plant-based ingredients and replacing animal products without compromising taste or quality is what energizes our team every day.
One piece of advice for someone who is just starting out with their startup?
Talk to your target audience early and often. Be flexible with your solution—but stay true to your “why.” And build your network early.
What does it mean to you to be a member of the Swiss Startup Association?
It connects us with the Swiss startup ecosystem and gives us visibility, feedback, and access to helpful contacts. SSA supports our growth both personally and professionally—and helps amplify our mission and the visibility of Swiss foodtech.
Would you recommend joining the Swiss Startup Association? Why?
SSA offers real value—from exposure and ecosystem access to peer exchange and practical support. For food startups especially, the connections and insights we’ve gained have been invaluable.
Have you ever visited the events of the Swiss Startup Association? If yes, which ones? Would you recommend them?
Networking and meetups help connect us to the ecosystem. SSA events are compact, relevant, and full of high-quality exchange—especially valuable for early-stage and growth-phase startups.
Is there anything that we haven’t asked you that you would like to share with us/the community?
We’re always open to partners who share our vision of a more sustainable food system—whether as customers or investors. We’re currently raising our pre-seed round to bring EggField to industrial scale. So if you’re curious, we’d love to connect.
